    Citric acid is one of the most widely used acids in the cosmetic industry, it is derived from citrus fruit by fermentation of crude sugars. Used as a preservative to adjust acid-alkali balance. It is also used as an astringent, alone or in astringent compounds. Among the cosmetic products in which it is frequently found are freckle and nail bleaches, bath preparations, skin fresheners, depilatories and hair rinses. It is also taken internally as a refreshing drink with water and sugar added.

    Citric acid is the main ingredient in "fizzy bath bombs", the type one throws into a filled bathtub and the "bomb" begins fizzing once it hits the water.  Below's a simple recipe.

    Dry Ingredients: 1 cup baking soda,1/2 cup citric acid,1/2 cup corn starch. Sieve dry ingredients til you get a nice smooth blend. (Optional: add 1/3 cup Epsom salts or coarse sea salt after sieving). Spray the dry mixture with witch hazel until it is the texture of sand like you would make a sand castle with, THEN add your citric acid and mix it in with your hands.

    Wet Ingredients:2-1/2 T. sunflower or other light oil, 3/4 T. water, 1 to 2 teaspoons essential oils or fragrance oils, vegetable or other natural colorant (optional).

    Combine wet ingredients in a jar. Cover tightly and shake vigorously. Drizzle onto dry ingredients and blend thoroughly. Pack tightly into molds and set out to dry overnight. They should release easily!

    Country of origin: Germany.

    INCI: Citric Acid.

    NOTE: Purity of our citric acid (anhydrous): Assay calculated on the anhydrous basis....Specification 99.5% to100.5%, test results 100.21%. This is a GMO-free product (USP/FCC/Kosher/Granular), white or colorless crystals. Our citric acid is food grade. We do not provide paperwork for Kosher certification. NOTE: Even though this product is classified as safe for human ingestion and food grade (per the manufacturer), we do not sell our products for ingestion or for food. We sell our products for external applications and to be used as ingredients in formulating soaps and toiletries. If you choose to use this product for ingestion, you do so under your own responsibility and decision.

    PACKAGING:  Purchasing 10 lbs., 25 lbs. or larger quantities of a powder product (clay, pumice or any product listed in our Salts, Sugars & Powders category) doesn’t mean you’ll receive one package containing all of the pounds purchased.  We will prepare individual plastic bags whose weights will add up to the total number of purchased pounds.  For example, do not expect 25 lbs. of a powder product to be packed in one 25 lb. bag.  There could be the rare occasion where we could receive from the manufacturer a 50 lb. factory-sealed bag and we’ll turn around and ship the same bag to a customer who ordered 50 lbs. of a powder product.

    You get a lifetime supply because very little goes a very long way. Works great for adjusting pH when you need to make your soaps or lotions more acidic. Does not affect smell or colour of your product. Very good quality Citric Acid!
    Must have

    Camden has the best price on Citric acid than I've found anywhere else online, which is crucial since I use so much of it. Thanks again!

    Citric Acid is such a crucial component of much of my formulating, particularly in regulating the ph of my lotions and liquid soap. This product is never-fail! I'm thrilled that I can always trust Camden-Grey to provide me with such fresh and pure ingredients.

    CofA: Download

    Thanks for browsing thru this section which contains answers to many questions that are often asked of us. Here we explain where to locate CofA and SDS for a product, how we dispense and package our products, how products should be stored, basic terminology and the wait time for bulk products to ship from our warehouse. FYI: We're closed on Fridays.

    Certificate of Analysis (CofA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). We publish on our website those documents for most of our products, some products don't provide either because the product doesn't require it. In this same section where you're at now, look to the tab to the left titled Documents, click on it and that's where you'll find either document for the product you seek. If you do not find the document you require, please email us at customerservice@camdengrey.com so we can research further.

    BULK ITEMS: When a customer adds a bulk item to the cart, the customer’s immediately shown on the screen how many number of days should be allowed for the bulk product to arrive at our warehouse. If the bulk item happens to be in stock, we’ll ship sooner than the customer would expect. As we emerge from Covid, logistics operations are not yet back to normal, what used to arrive at our warehouse in 3 days now takes much longer. Should a vendor inform us the ordered product will take longer than what’s mentioned on our website we’ll email the customer with the latest information.

    TERMINOLOGY:

    EO = essential oil

    FO = fragrance oil

    HOW PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED...

    BOTTLING/PACKAGING:

    Essential oils: in 1/32 oz. to 1/4 oz...amber glass vials with orifice reducers. ½ oz. to 2 oz...in amber glass bottles with white caps and Eurodroppers...3 to 4 oz. in amber glass bottles with black caps and without orifice reducers...7 oz. in aluminum bottles...15 oz. in amber glass bottles with black caps...10 & 25 lbs. in HDPE plastic containers with wide mouths although, occasionally, 25 lbs. may be dispensed in factory-issued metal containers with pouring spouts.

    28 lbs. of carrier oils and other liquids are dispensed in individual HDPE plastic gallon containers with handles, each holds the purchased net weight of liquid.

    30+ lbs. of carrier oils, other liquids, soft butters, Castile gel and other products are dispensed in plastic HDPE pails w/metal handles & pouring spouts in the lid; those products may remain inside the pails indefinitely when properly stored. After Covid, we reserve the right to use any packaging/dispensing container available to us and not mentioned above because it continues to be difficult many times to restock the same packaging container or material used in the past.

    NOTE: An EO may safely remain inside an aluminum container for up to 3 months, but if storing longer than 3 months the oil should be transferred to amber glass. Fragrances and carrier oils up to 8 lbs. may remain inside HDPE plastic bottles indefinitely. If the customer at any time feels more comfortable transferring a product to glass this should be done. ALL PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED BY WEIGHT, THUS, SOME CONTAINERS MAY BE FILLED HIGHER THAN OTHERS DEPENDING ON THE WEIGHT AND VISCOSITY OF EACH PRODUCT.

    Raw materials/ingredients are dispensed by weight. Many customers ask how many ounces in a pound, there are 16 ounces in one pound. These are not fluid ounces, they are ounces by weight.

    HOW TO STORE: EOs, FOs and BUTTERS should be stored in tightly-sealed containers away from direct light and heat. Some EOs could be highly flammable, keep away from open flames. Keep all liquids and powders you purchase from Camden-Grey tightly capped and away from the reach of children, the elderly or infirm and pets. Refrigerating butters could adversely affect the consistency of the butter, please join our Forum if you need to learn how to handle, work with and store products.
