    Botanical Name: Ocimum basilicum

    Plant Part: Leaf

    Country of Origin: India

    Method of Extraction: Steam Distillation

This oil’s aroma is warm, spicy and herbal. Generally used as an antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, pain reliever and antibacterial, it offers a wake-me-up aroma. Basil is a wonderful addition to many perfume blends, it is said to work as a brain and memory stimulant and soothes stress, depression, and mental fatigue.

Blended with Rosemary verbenon makes an excellent blend to be used as an external application on the hair and scalp to stimulate growth and condition hair. Basil is also indicated for urinary infections, rheumatoid arthritis and insufficient digestive enzymes–used in a massage blend. Good for tired, overworked muscles, chest infections and digestive problems. Blends well with bergamot, lavender, neroli and verbena.

Our basil EO has contents of 70-72% of methyl chavicol and 15-18% of linalool. There is no written or concrete evidence that the content of methyl chavicol in Basil EO is a carcinogen. The day this evidence is forthcoming, it will most likely indicate carcinogenicity applies to cases of internal consumption or for very extensive and/or frequent applications of the oil directly to the skin. This oil is very strong and you don't need very much of it, but when blended with lemon essential oil it smells out of this world tasty!
    Green, sharp and slightly bitter.

This smells very green, sharp and slightly bitter. I don’t get any roundness here, but a rather leafy and astringent effect that is very energizing. I think it is relatively far from the fresh basil smell. The anise side of fresh basil seems to be a little off, behind the green front, though you still can smell it, but in a sweet and soft way. The whole effect smells like wet leaves – the beautiful smell of wet green leaves after a refreshing rain.
    Smells like licorice

Good oil, smells like basil with a licorice back note. Green, clean fragrance.

I was surprised by the scent because to me it was almost like basil mixed with anise but once diluted smells better. Now I really like it! Happy with my purchase.
    Clean and green

I use alot of basil oil and love this one. It is light yet sustains it's scent for a long time. I use it in cp soap with rosemary and lemon. Like a fresh garden.
    Cool with me

Definitely has some great benefits with this oil. Personally I have to be careful with the amount I use. The smell is STRONG for me! Look forward to using this in a lot more things though. Thank you Camden Grey!

What a great scent. I try it lots of combos but my favorite is with lemon and spearmint. Such a "green" unisex scent :)
    Try it with lemongrass

This oil doesn't smell as "sweet" as I thought it would, and does not have that "green" smell of fresh basil. It is spicy yet restrained, and is rather weighty. I blended it with lemongrass EO (also from Camdengrey, more than 6 years old and still kicking) and it smells wonderful. I know, I know, basil and lemongrass makes you think of Thai food. No, it does not smell like spicy food, but it definately smells exotic.

I just bought this E.O. and it smells more like my concept of basil, rather than sweet basil. It has rich hints of black pepper and anise - and reminds more of Italian cookery than the green herbaceous smell I'm used to from "sweet" basil. Still good though! I'm going to try it with some orange oil & see how it goes.

    HOW PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED...

    BOTTLING/PACKAGING:

Essential oils: Are sold only in the quantities/net weights listed on our website. These oils are shipped to us by the distiller or manufacturer in industry-standard metal or plastic containers and that’s how we ship them to you.

Carrier oils and most other liquids are dispensed in individual HDPE plastic pails or containers with some type of handle, each container holds the purchased net weight of liquid.

Soft butters such as Horsetail and Almond are dispensed in plastic HDPE pails w/metal handles; those butters may remain inside the pails indefinitely when properly stored. Hard butters such as Cocoa are dispensed factory-wrapped in plastic and placed inside a box. Castile Gel is dispensed in a self-contained cubitainer with pouring spout.

NOTE: While the packaging methods mentioned above are generalized, we reserve the right to dispense and ship in any available container. If a customer at any time feels more comfortable transferring an essential or carrier oil to glass, this should be done.

Raw materials/ingredients are sold and dispensed by weight. Many customers ask how many ounces are in a pound, there are 16 ounces in one pound. These are not fluid ounces, they are ounces by weight.

HOW TO STORE: EOs, FOs and BUTTERS should be stored in tightly-sealed containers away from direct light and heat. Some EOs and FOs could be highly flammable, keep away from open flames and from varnished or wood surfaces. Keep all liquids and powders you purchase from Camden-Grey tightly capped and away from the reach of children, the elderly or infirm and pets. Refrigerating butters could adversely affect the consistency of a butter, please join our Forum if you need to learn how to handle, work with and store products.
