Stearic acid occurs naturally in butter acids, tallow and other animal fats and oils. A white waxy natural fatty acid, it is the major ingredient used in making bar soap and lubricants and gives pearliness to hand creams. It is also used to thicken lotions. In bar soap, it makes for a harder, longer lasting bar, add 1 tablespoon per pound of soap.

Ours is vegetable based (either from palm or coconut), white, granulated and triple pressed. The vendor will not specify which of our purchases is derived from which.

Stearic acid, sometimes referred to as stearin, is a non-toxic additive that increases the opacity and hardness of candles. It will also brighten colors in dyed candles. Candles will burn longer and have an improved surface when stearic acid is used. We recommend adding 3 tablespoons per pound of wax. For a mottled effect in your candles we recommend adding 1/2 to1 teaspoon per pound of wax.

    INCI: Stearic Acid.

PACKAGING:  Purchasing 10 lbs., 25 lbs. or larger quantities of a powder product (clay, pumice or any product listed in our Salts, Sugars & Powders category) doesn’t mean you’ll receive one package containing all of the pounds purchased.  We will prepare individual plastic bags whose weights will add up to the total number of purchased pounds.  For example, do not expect 25 lbs. of a powder product to be packed in one 25 lb. bag.  There could be the rare occasion where we could receive from the manufacturer a 50 lb. factory-sealed bag and we’ll turn around and ship the same bag to a customer who ordered 50 lbs. of a powder product.

I add this to my soap recipes and wow what a difference. The soap unfolds much sooner and the bars become rock hard making it a great lasting bar in the shower. Will be incorporating this into all my recipes moving forward. Make sure you add it in a lye calculator when adding to your recipes! ;)
    Awesome stuff!

Without this my lotions are a little runny in texture. I put a tablespoon in 24 oz. of lotion and it makes my lotions very thick and creamy. It does not make finished lotion products waxy as ling as you don't put too much and add a little bit of lactic acid too to make a smooth emollient feeling lotion. Also makes harder soap bars but I also like to add olive oil to the soap to make an even harder bar.
    Will last a looooong time!

Most of the soaps I make are goat milk, I use a half ounce to an ounce of your stearic acid in every batch that I use milk in - it really helps to keep my bars nice and hard. And your price is great!

    HOW PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED...

    BOTTLING/PACKAGING:

Essential oils: Are sold only in the quantities/net weights listed on our website. These oils are shipped to us by the distiller or manufacturer in industry-standard metal or plastic containers and that’s how we ship them to you.

Carrier oils and most other liquids are dispensed in individual HDPE plastic pails or containers with some type of handle, each container holds the purchased net weight of liquid.

Soft butters such as Horsetail and Almond are dispensed in plastic HDPE pails w/metal handles; those butters may remain inside the pails indefinitely when properly stored. Hard butters such as Cocoa are dispensed factory-wrapped in plastic and placed inside a box. Castile Gel is dispensed in a self-contained cubitainer with pouring spout.

NOTE: While the packaging methods mentioned above are generalized, we reserve the right to dispense and ship in any available container. If a customer at any time feels more comfortable transferring an essential or carrier oil to glass, this should be done.

Raw materials/ingredients are sold and dispensed by weight. Many customers ask how many ounces are in a pound, there are 16 ounces in one pound. These are not fluid ounces, they are ounces by weight.

HOW TO STORE: EOs, FOs and BUTTERS should be stored in tightly-sealed containers away from direct light and heat. Some EOs and FOs could be highly flammable, keep away from open flames and from varnished or wood surfaces. Keep all liquids and powders you purchase from Camden-Grey tightly capped and away from the reach of children, the elderly or infirm and pets. Refrigerating butters could adversely affect the consistency of a butter, please join our Forum if you need to learn how to handle, work with and store products.
